Secret Life of Houseplants – A Short Documentary

Plants tell us about mobility and adaptability. They can live almost anywhere with a bit of soil and sun. Just like people. Plants from all over the world inhabit our cities and apartments. What exactly makes people and plants connect and cohabit cities?
This mini-documentary proposes to investigate some of the following questions: What are the personal experiences of a plant caretaker with a specific plant? What are the benefits of living with a plant? Why do some people develop a passion for caring for their plants while others do not? What can a camera catch of these experiences?
The goal is to challenge the insensitive eye through the sitters’ emotions and their pose in front of the camera.
The final project is a slide projection accompanied by a small book of photographs and 15 interviews of people from 9 cities around the world. The names, professions or hobbies and countries of the participants are entered in the catalogue and the website www.deliapopa.com shows its digital version.
The project was shown at the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, 13th edition, Bari, Italy, May 2008.

Pentru ca plantele nu au caracteristici antropomorfice, ca de exemplu câinii si pisicile, presupunem ca este greu sa distingem un specimen de un altul si, astfel, sa putem face portrete de plante, dar felul în care percepem lucrurile în mod personal este de multe ori diferit de discursul public…
Scopul acestui proiect este de a provoca ochiul insensibil prin emotiile modelului si felul în care aleg sa pozeze în fata camerei. 15 participanti din 9 orase din toata lumea raspund la 7 întrebari despre plantele lor si contribuie la un portret cu planta preferata.
Prezentarea finala este o proiectie de diapozitive, acompaniate de un catalog mic cu toate fotografiile si interviurile.
Numele, profesiile si hobby-urile participantilor, precum si orasul în care locuiesc, au fost introduse în acest catalog, iar site-ul www.deliapopa.com arata varianta digitala.
Proiectul a fost expus la Bienala Tinerilor Artisti din Europa si zona mediteraneana, ediflia a XIII-ea, Bari, Italia, mai 2008.
A Retrospective (in Landscape) 1989-2007

The installation is inspired by a cut paper city the artist made when she was 9 and constitutes a miniature retrospective of her artistic activity from that age on. She re-made a number of her own works out of paper, starting with a 1989 paper park realized on a 1:1 scale and ending with works from 2007 including the paper miniature of this installation itself.
The imitation-works are placed on maps of cities she has lived and worked in. An audio guide wispers stories of places seen and of constructions that don’t last…

Instalatia este inspirata de un oras din hârtie facut în 1989, când artista avea 9 ani, si constituie o retrospectiva în miniatura a activitatii sale artistice începând cu acea vârsta. Un numar de lucrari sunt refacute din hârtie, începând cu un parc realizat la scara 1:1 si încheind cu lucrari din 2007, amplasate în peisaje–harta ale oraselor în care a trait si a lucrat.
Un ghid audio sopteste vizitatorului povesti despre locurile vizitate si despre constructii care nu dureaza…
