The Construct of Understanding

This series is generated by the concept of “construct of understanding” as a metaphorical view on how humanity witnesses, analyses and understands it’s accomplishments, through virtual reenactment or through a scaled build-up of a certain environment or mental realm, the main context for this being how man changes/shapes/reshapes matter or concept (as a virtual matter) to better suit humanity.

The works are meant as a virtual space of involved witnessing of live/dynamic dioramas in which the present time of the audience precedes the time of the subject, the point of view works from past to present in contrast to how analyzing and classicizing a certain issue happens.

The subjects are the result of exploring processes or events that fascinate me and because I cannot fully understand them, these subjects become a contemporary exotica of mechanisms both real and metaphorical; through processing these fascinations I try to come closer to what is the engine beyond a certain aspect of what, how and why some things work as they do.

Each of the works is constructed by building a relationship between a scene and a”background”. The “backgrounds” are studies of dissection theaters from the beginning of the 20’th century because: these images give me the feeling of long lasting and verified understanding of a certain issue; the medical universe has, in my view, the most harmonious mix of theoretical and practical methods of analysis; this type of theatre has a shape that suggests a holistic view of the audience; the collage between the moment in time of the “background” and the moment in time of the scene creates a gap which has encapsulated in it the history of the birth ,evolution and current view of the world on the fragment of humanity depicted.
